Welcome to another episode of The Kite Bag Tour here on Sky Rider Limited. Today’s video is not the one I planned to make but in the world of kite YouTubing one has to stay flexible. Originally, I planned to show you a bunch of new arrivals, including a few brand new kites and some classics I finally tracked down. But that plan was derailed by my doom scrolling of the internet and a post on Craigslist. Friend of the channel Angus Johnstone shared a Craigslist ad, wishing that things like that came for sale in Australia. The ad was for 8 sport kites, and they were located just about three hours away from me. Only one kite was identified by name in the ad, but it was something I had to have. The price was almost too good to be true but given the kite in play and the price tag, I had to. I got lucky, I reached out and made a deal. I appreciate the seller, Steve, holding them for me. He asked if I wanted to check the kites out when I arrived, but I took the gamble and loaded them up and headed home. I was pretty pleased with what I found. There were a few kites I couldn’t at once identify, however, as I did my detective work, I became more excited about what I had bought. The first kite is the one that was named in the ad. Because Top Of The Line Kites labeled their bags the seller correctly identified a North Shore Extreme. The Extreme is the baby of the Radical family. The Radical is the fourth kite to come out of Don Tabor’s Top Of The Line Kites. The Radical and most of the family (The Kona, The Airkraft, and The VIP) were all full size 8 foot big wings. There were two exceptions, the massive 10 foot Windrule and the little 6 foot Extreme. Made of ripstop nylon and framed in pultruded graphite, the Extreme was a budget friendly choice in the line. Billed as fast and fun the Extreme has been on my list for some time, and I can’t wait to get it in the air. The second and third kites are a matched pair, a set of Bees by the Chicago Fire Kite Company. The Bee or Fire Bee as it’s sometimes called is a full 8 foot wing team kite. The Bee is a slow, deliberate flyer and extremely well made. The sails were produced for Chicago Fire Kite Company by Flexifoil International, a kite company that excelled in both mass production and quality at the time. Framed in Beman carbon tubes, it’s easy to see why these are so well loved. The Bee is another kite I have never flown, and I am looking forward to getting this pair in the air, possibly with my dad for a video. Next is a Pro Wasp by Wind Walker Kites, studio offshoot of Gayla Kites. The Pro Wasp is a unique shape in between a Hawaiian and dart shape. It has two extra spines that reach all the way to the ground in the tunnel and have the stand off fitting at about where a center tee would go. I’m looking forward to exploring this one. Next is a set of kites from Go Fly A Kite and Spectra Star that fit in to the 80’s no standoff category. Those are definitely interesting as they are both in the mass production category and yet again exceptionally well produced. The seventh kite is a real find, a Sky Burner Kites Sky Burner II. The Sky Burner II appeared around 1994 as the newest in a succession of thoroughbreds from John Trennepohl. It featured innovations like molded Easton fittings and wrapped tapered carbon tubes. I can’t wait to get this one restored and in the air again. Finally, the last kite in the collection was a real surprise, A Wind Dancer by Ken McNeill featuring his “Bella Donna” Graphic. As beautifully made as this kite is it is also 100% complete and so it will be a flyer as well, something I looking forward to immensely. That’s it for this round of The Kite Bag Tour, I hope you enjoyed it, and we’ll see you out there. 00:00 Introduction 03:50 North Shore Extreme By Top Of The Line Kites 06:48 Bees By The Chicago Fire Kite Company 09:58 Pro Wasp By Wind Walker Kites 14:55 Sky Jammers By Spectra Star and an unknown model By Go Fly A Kite 17:02 Sky Burner II By Sky Burner Kites 20:24 Wind Dancer "Bella Donna" By Ken McNeill/Aerie Kiteworks Thanks for watching!
