Manchester Becomes a War Zone: Britain First Protest Clashes with Counter-Protesters (Feb 21, 2026). On February 21st, 2026, Manchester city centre turned chaotic during a Britain First protest. What started as a demonstration quickly escalated into violent confrontations between Britain First supporters and a large counter-protest group often described as Antifa/left-wing activists. This video captures raw footage from the day — skirmishes, police lines, speeches, and the intense atmosphere on the streets. Key observations from the ground: The Britain First event focused on issues like illegal immigration, asylum hotels, and related concerns — NOT opposition to legal migrants working in the NHS as some claimed. Counter-protesters arrived in force, seemingly more interested in confrontation than dialogue. Blocking routes, clashing with police and opponents, and using aggressive tactics achieved little beyond amplifying the original protest. Ironically, attempting to shut down a protest often makes one appear more authoritarian/fascist than those exercising free speech rights. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn appeared at the counter-rally in Piccadilly Gardens, delivering a speech referencing historical anti-fascist actions (e.g., Ridley Road 1947–49 against Oswald Mosley). He suggested the Britain First march targeted NHS migrant workers, a claim that doesn't align with the protest's stated focus. The counter-protest drew huge attention to Britain First's message, spreading footage across social media and gaining millions of views. Without opposition, the event might have stayed low-profile. This isn't about taking sides on the protest topic itself — it's about observing the dynamics: dehumanising language, thuggish behaviour, and how counter-protests can backfire by boosting visibility for the group they oppose. The so-called "anti-fascists" often came across as middle-class performers who view the working class as inherently racist/enemies to be suppressed — echoing historical patterns of division and scapegoating (e.g., shifting blame from one group to "billionaires" today). My take: Real debate and conversation beat street violence and division every time. Politicians and activists pushing hate and conflict for votes or clout are the real problem — not ordinary people with differing views.
