Join this studio visit with textile artist Ask Bjørlo, where he talks about the variety of techniques used in his artistic practice and his interest in textile history and earlier crafts practitioners. Ask also talks about the position that nature holds in his works, both conceptually and materially. In the film we also learn about his solo exhibition Thread Lightly shown at OSL Contemporary in 2021, and his work ‘Mermen turning on the moon’ featured in the group exhibitions Ode to a Dishrag, Hymn to a Tiger at Kunstnerforbundet and Kunsthall Stavanger and To Build a Collection at Stavanger Art Museum. Ask Bjørlo is a textile artist, currently living and working in Hønefoss, Norway. His practice encompasses a variety of techniques, including weaving, embroidery, seam work, and knitting. Ask actively engages with the textile history, and often works in dialogue with earlier textile traditions and practitioners. For his work, he draws inspiration from nature, mythical creatures, as well as childhood memories. He graduated with an MA in Medium- and Material Based Art at the Art and Craft department at Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2019, after completing studies at renowned textile institutions in Sweden and Japan.
