Norway’s military intelligence has raised alarms over growing Russian and Chinese efforts to expand their presence on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. In its latest threat assessment, Oslo says Moscow views Svalbard’s strategic location as vital and is working to strengthen its foothold in the Russian-populated settlement of Barentsburg, including reducing reliance on Norwegian infrastructure through regular ship visits. China, meanwhile, is increasing polar research and shipping activity, seeking a larger Arctic role. Norwegian officials warn that rising U.S.-Europe tensions, particularly over Greenland, could benefit Moscow and Beijing as Western unity shows signs of strain. #ArcticTensions #Svalbard #Norway #Russia #China #ArcticPowerPlay #Geopolitics #NATO #Greenland Times Of India (TOI) Is The Largest Selling English Daily In The World.
