X Carve CNC - setup, test, first impressions. (WnW #39)

Part one of my X-Carve setup and evaluation. I call this part one because because to do this justice I really need to revisit this in about six months or so after I’ve used it for several more projects. Right now it is still early for me. All Canadians should be sure and watch until the very end for a special note just for them. :-) There are many detailed X-Carve build videos floating around out there. I think the last think that youtube needs is another detailed build video. Instead I take a "big picture" approach to things here. The most important thing to keep in mind is that THIS IS A KIT. It is not a finished tool. If you don't like putting things together, you are not going to enjoy this. There are a lot of parts, and a lot of steps to go through before you can use your X-Carve. But, just take your time and follow the excellent online guide at inventables and you should do just fine. The project that I build is really nothing special. It was just an excuse to try out the software and work through the whole process of starting from a shape, getting the software configured, and then seeing how the machine carving works. One thing that really bugs me is that the bit returns to “home” at the end. I didn’t film this “critique” as I assume there must be some good reason for this that I’m missing. It really bugs me because the very next thing I want to do is RAISE THE BIT so that I can remove the project from the machine.
