It’s the morning of October 23, 2025, at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad, California. Nestled in the large, barren dry farmland in central California is the small town of Soledad, with a population of 26000 residents, many of whom are employed by the California department of corrections. Salinas Valley, like many of California’s prisons, is home to a series of violent, racially segregated gangs and as a result, are oftentimes homes to infighting, race riots, and corruption between guards and prison officials. Locked up at the institution is Todd S. Morgan, known by the nickname Fox, who’d been serving a life sentence since 2002 as a third-strike convicted offender, was serving an additional 22 years for trafficking methamphetamine and heroin out of Salinas Valley. He was one of many top level leaders within the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang, a violent drug trafficking organization that formed as a result of prison desegregation in the early 1960s. The brotherhood is known, among other things, for their crude tattoos, promotion of psychological reading material, and inner-prison violence between rivals and members. The far majority of brotherhood members are locked up for various crimes including murder-robberies and most of all methamphetamine abuse and trafficking. And Morgan, unknown to him and prison officials, was now on the chopping block. As he walked the yard that morning at around 9:50 am, convicted murderers, and aryan brotherhood members Todd J Givens, Robert England, and Ray N Waldron swarmed Morgan and chopped him up with prison-made knives. He was declared deceased just ten minutes later, and the trio were arrested within the prison for murder. Morgan’s stabbing was a part of a much larger conspiracy within the brotherhood and was timed with a wave of attacks, shootings, and murders being called from behind the walls of the state’s prisons by a commission of three gang bosses. Matthew Galeotti, the US justice department’s criminal division supervisor, told the court “the convicted defendants led a notorious prison gang that committed ruthless murders, widespread methamphetamine trafficking, and perpetuated a culture of mayhem, fear, and disorder within the prison system that bled into the outside world.” Morgan was dead, and his killers didn’t care that they’d done it in broad daylight, or that they were caught. All three of them were already serving several life sentences for murders committed years ago out on the streets, and were willing to take the rap if it was for the gang. He was just another victim in the world of the California Aryan Brotherhood.
