A visit to the Great Central Railways' '1940s Wartime Weekend' event. This event took place over the weekend of the 1st to the 3rd June 2018. The scenes in this video were filmed on the 3rd June 2018. Locomotives operating during the event included; BR Standard Class 5MT, No. 73156, BR Standard Class 9F No. 92214 'Leicester City' and LMS 8F Class No. 48624. Scenes from all stations along the line (in order of appearance); Loughborough Central Station, Leicester North Station (renamed SNCF Le Birstall), Quorn & Woodhouse Station and Rothley Station. At Loughborough Central Station to be seen were home guard displays including Winston Churchill and the King overseeing arriving and departing trains. Then moving to Leicester North Station (renamed SNCF Le Birstall); French themed station occupied by the German Garrison. The Panzer Lehr - WW2 Elite German unit on display are seen patrolling the platform and the carriage Quorn & Woodhouse Station is next seen with the largest displays and attractions to be seen along the route. Displays of vintage and military vehicles, traction engines, farm machinary, bofor guns, military armoury, anderson shelter, period music and a static spitfire - the only one in existence with an operational Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. To end an aerial display from a Spitfire and a Dakota. Lastly a flying visit to Rothley Station occupied by German troops. The highlight here, the Germans preparing to fight with the Americans! Filmed whilst on a day out with the family.
