SOUNDBITE: (English): Gideon Taylor, Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany: "To hear these stories, to think about these stories, is to think about the unthinkable. These people have been to hell. All that we of this generation can do is to acknowledge them, to honor them, and to make sure that their stories are never ever forgotten." 4. Medium shot two Holocaust survivors at press briefing - NOTE - these two men are not survivors of the medical experiments - no such survivors came to the press briefing 5. Cutaway photographer at briefing 6. SOUNDBITE: (English): Roman Kent, Chairman, American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors: "So that we should not confine it to just Dr. Mengele, and to say 'Oh he's the only one who did it.' No, it is important that it was widespread. And we have to do whatever we can to have it for history. What are historical facts, what really the historical facts are, so that maybe in the future it will never happen to anybody." 7. Medium shot cameras 8. Wide shot Taylor STORYLINE: A few written testimonies from people who claimed to have been the subject of Nazi medical experiments were released on Monday by the Conference on Jewish Materials Claims Against Germany in New York. Gideon Taylor the executive vice president says he has been gathering a record of those still surviving around the world. So far, 1,778 Jewish victims of Nazi medical experiments from 33 countries have responded. Taylor said such a large number of people making claims indicates there were thousands more who either died during the experiments or have died in the years since. Data collected from the claimants show there were about 178 different types of medical experiments conducted in more than 30 camps and ghettos. Some victims were not Jewish, including a group of Polish nuns, Taylor said. In submissions likely to change the way history books chronicle one of the worst horrors of the Holocaust, several victims have agreed to let their names be released. Among those was Polish-born U.S. resident Hyman Turenshine, 76, who said he remained silent for years about the sterilization experiments he underwent in Auschwitz in 1944 - but was motivated to speak out by those who suggest the Holocaust never occurred. Written statements by Turenshine and others who are speaking out will be given to Holocaust institutions, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
