A defining characteristic of Goju Ryu Karate. Though Chudan Uke is a basic technique, the practice of this kihon requires adherence to details, which were passed down from my Sensei. Chudan Uke is broken down in 3 parts: -the completed uke shape -moving from hikite “chamber position” to uke -moving from uke to hikite The details of this video are specific to Chudan Uke. Concepts such as posture, alignment, engagement, reinforcement, grounding, and breathing are taught through Sanchin Kata. The Accuracy, Power, and Speed Progression Steps provide a framework in which all execution follows. Each of these concepts should be understood and applied when practicing the uke. Chudan Uke is utilized in several training routines such as “The Static Routine”, and in Kata, such as “Gekei Sai Ichi and Sanseru”, Sanchin & Tensho. Chudan Uke can be strengthened and reinforced using hoju undo and resistance equipment such as chi ishi, ishi sashi, and kettlebells. Like all Budo, the starting point uses the most basic of movements. Chudan uke is a foundational movement that several techniques are built upon, requiring our best effort and spirit along the path to Pursue Karate.
