Students are often denied the evidence-based approach they need to gain phonological awareness and phonics skills. This lack of equity puts them on a trajectory of academic failure despite their cognitive ability. We must guarantee the right level of teacher training, fair government policies and funding, and a clear and consistent pathway for evidence based intervention.
