Yesterday I decided to revisit the abandoned Kelsey Mine in San Gabriel Canyon by Azusa, CA. I started around the Morris Reservoir and made my way up to the upper adit. It was great going inside. This one doesn't get a lot of visitors, and I actually saw a few of my footprints from when I went toward the end of 2024 (and maybe my other visit). There were a bunch of blue-green copper minerals as usual (likely azurite, malachite and chrysocolla). The lower level had a bunch of great caverns willed with water and flowstone. I also visited the other two adits in the area. In the mines, I saw a frog, a California newt, and a snail. I wasn't planning on doing this initially, but there are other reasons I decided to visit today, which I get into in part of the video. This is an amazing area in the Angeles National Forest, but parts are a little sketchy. I love the San Gabriel Mountains. There are many great mines here. I have more I want to locate, but ones like this are nice to revisit. Over the years, I've heard some crazy stories about places that have generally been forgotten that are similar to this one and are perhaps even more beautiful (there's always more to find). I love all the great spots like this in the San Gabriel Mountains. It was great to finally make a video where I visit all three of the adits I know about here. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more. Apparently the mining was for both gold and silver.
