This is an internal view of the EasyStart 368 AC compressor smart start. This controls the inrush voltage on a compressor and thus reduces the start current. This is useful if running the compressor on a generator or other source with reduced surge output. A single phase AC motor/compressor can easily draw 3+ times the running current at start. This means a 3 ton AC unit drawing 14 amps running may draw 42-50 Amps starting. In the best case you'll see a voltage drop on generator, in the worst case, it may not start at all. By starting the compressor/motor with lower voltage, the current goes down accordingly, and then the voltage is ramped up to full speed after several seconds. The EasyStart 368 includes some bluetooth connectivity for measuring with a phone app too, and will auto learn. It looks to be a unique well made unit.
