This is the first video in my tutorial series on Outside Drift Momentum for Mushroom Gorge (RTA strats). For those unaware, I've decided to split up the track into multiple, smaller videos dedicated to each segment. I'm anticipating a rather busy spring semester, so the rest of the series will take some time. The next video will be on the gap cut, as that is probably the only part of the track that I believe I have completely figured out at this point in time. I don't have a goal for a release date. For anyone new here: I was the first person to implement these strats into RTA runs, and I spent quite a while analyzing TAS inputs to figure out the easiest/best possible ways to do this stuff in RTA. If you want to see my current pbs, see these videos (wrs as of uploading): No-glitch 3lap: • [MKW] Mushroom Gorge (No Glitch) - 1:... No-glitch flap: • [MKW] Mushroom Gorge Flap (No Glitch)... Changing it to 60 messed everything up, but videos moving forward should be in 60fps. My laptop can't edit anything higher than 1080p in real time. 1:19 Think of a counterdrift as "driving right to go left." If you want a clear-cut example, see Jerko's bkt on dksc ( • [MKW] DK Summit - 1:53.914 (ODB BKT) . 2:22 The facing direction is denoted by the little white box with the arrow on top. The arrow points in the facing direction, obviously. 2:25 The total velocity calculation can deviate from this at times, but it behaves like this most of the time. 4:27 The counterdrift serves to angle the IV vector; the lean generating the EV is caused by the flick after hitting the mushroom pad. 4:56 This is not to say that karts can't exploit ODM. They simply can't exploit EV contributions from the lean effect. Karts can still do things like slope boosting, as evident by the momentum hop used in the kart moonjump, and in a few other places in kart TTs and TASes. 5:10 This tierlist is not accurate, just satire. Standard bike L is pretty good according to Jerko, but Shooting Star is by far the most versatile ODB (like flame runner for IDBs). 5:22 I was introduced to it in January. I didn't start learning it until Summer (see FAQs in the pinned comment). 6:12 ODM is used in these two clips when driving sideways and flicking in the opposite direction. Notably, the ramp exiting TF factory, TF shroomless lake cut, TF low ramp, and RR wavy road.
