From his 1969 album "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head". Written and originally released by Mark James in 1968, but it failed to chart. Directly after this, James gave the song to Elvis Presley, who recorded a new version in the same studio as his original version, American Sound in Memphis, Tennessee on January 22, 1969, and was released later in the year on August 26, 1969. It took his back to the the top of the charts with a No. 1 entry on November 1, 1969. While this recording from B. J. Thomas may have come out in between these time frames, his version was not released as a single. It sounds to me, upon listening to the original Mark James recording's (also released on Scepter) backing track was utilized for Thomas' recording, despite his original version being shorter in length, perhaps edited for 45 release. The original version had a rather odd stereo mix, and, as with many of Thomas' recordings, digital releases many years later proved many of his Scepter master tapes were in terrible condition. The CD release I had for this one has extreme tape hiss, almost overpowering to the music. I have first split all elements apart for a total remix to open up the sound, and added necessary digital noise reduction to clean up the recording, allowing the music and vocals to come through without interruption. Hope you enjoy!
