Exploring around Sidemen | Bali's BEST KEPT SECRET

In this video we spend 2 days exploring around Sidemen, in East Bali. Day 1 After the rain clears in the morning, we are ready to get out to explore. We don't have much of an agenda planned but we rent a motorbike through our guesthouse and venture out. We had seen what looked to be a temple on top of the mountain behind our place so we head that way first thing. According to Google Maps, it is the Puri Bukit Tegeh Temple. It is a quick drive up the mountain and there appears to be an entry gate with some stairs but no one is there to charge a fee. We take our chances and make our way up the stairs until we reach the temple. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place with a great view of Sidemen and the surrounding area. It looks like a rain storm is heading our way so we head back to our place to grab some lunch. We are really loving our time in Sidemen, it is so much quieter than Ubud, where we started our time in Bali. It is a bit of a trade off because there are not near the accommodation and restaurant options here. We have been eating basically all of our meals at our guesthouse and the food there has been DELICIOUS so we have no complaints. :) After lunch we head out to the rice terraces around Sidemen. We had driven past this area on our way in and there looked to be a small temple atop a hill in the middle of the rice fields. We make our way into the fields to the hill and enjoy the scenery but we learn that it is actually private property... Oops... The weather is changing anyway so we head back to our place and call it a night a little early. Day 2 We get a bit of a late start today but our plan is to head further East to the Lempuyang Temple. This is a very popular temple here in Bali and is commonly known as the "Gates of Heaven." We rent a motorbike from our guesthouse again and after about an hour ride, we make it to the temple. We pay a small donation, get a sarong and make our way up to the temple. The temple itself is beautiful and incredibly impressive. The photos we had seen online make the gates appear to be in front of a body of water but we quickly learn this is actually just a camera trick. We see a couple of guides using two cellphones to create the reflection... and after trying it ourselves, we figure out it is much harder than they made it look! On a clear day, you can actually see Mount Agung from the gates, but it is very stormy today and the mountain is covered by the clouds. We actually watch as a storm rolls in and hide out in the pavilions by the gates for an hour or so until it passes. As soon as the rain lets up, we make a run for it because it is nearly 1:30 and we are ready for lunch! We find a local warung on the road back to Sidemen and stop, have lunch and dry off. We hope to wait out the rain but it seems to be pretty relentless so we power through and finish our drive back to Sidemen. Tonight is actually our last night in Sidemen and we have absolutely loved the Balinese food so we ask for some recommendations of food we haven't tried yet. We can honestly say there hasn't been a single dish we didn't like and tonight is no exception! We have been in Bali for around 10 days at this point and have focused all of our time inland.
