A former Deputy National Police Commissioner for Support Services, Lieutenant-General Francinah Vuma, has told the parliamentary Ad Hoc committee that she submitted a report to National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola after completing an infrastructure assessment project for police buildings. Vuma says the report required the Commissioner's approval but she was subsequently asked to amend certain findings. According to her testimony, one of the requested changes involved removing a reference indicating that the directive for the work had originated from then Police Minister Bheki Cele. She further alleged that Masemola warned her to be cautious of Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale, claiming there were attempts to divert funds to support the Economic Freedom Fighters. Vuma also told the committee that the National Commissioner cautioned, that her refusal to comply with the requested changes could jeopardise her career.
