Do you love OBX but wonder where to camp in the Outer Banks? Maybe you like a quieter place to camp like we do, we don't really enjoy spending the day lugging tons of stuff out onto the HOT sand and trying to find a spot in the midst of all of the other tourists. We prefer a smaller town feel but still at the beach. We have found just that in this hidden gem in Wanchese, NC, we think it just might be the best campground in the Outer Banks. It's just 5 minutes from Jeanette's Pier where you can spend time on the beach or go out fishing on the pier but it's still quiet and non commercial. The Refuge on Roanoke Island is just perfect! Most of their sites are for annual stays, but the do have 13-14 transient sites which all back right up to the water, which is perfect for just enjoying the view, fishing, or even putting in your kayaks. We were so excited to find The Refuge and can't imagine camping anywhere else in the Outer Banks now. The owners are also in the process of building a second campgound, very similar to this one in Manteo, NC. Stay to the end of the video to see what the new campground will have to offer.
