March begins quietly in the garden. The week actually starts with large, wet snowflakes falling from the sky. But inside the greenhouse, things are slowly beginning to change. The big block of ice that has been sitting there all winter is finally starting to melt, the garlic keeps growing, and for the first time this year I can sit down and enjoy the warmth of the sun inside the greenhouse. At the same time, the seed trays under the grow lights are getting crowded. Onions, chili, aubergine, leeks and cabbage are all growing well, and the list of seeds that can be sown now keeps getting longer. The challenge is not to rush — but to take the season one small step at a time. This week I also turn the page in my garden calendar and rethink one of my winter harvest plans. Small moments, small tasks, and the quiet feeling that the new growing season is starting to move.
