In 2015 the podcast “Writing Class Radio” recorded Wendi Adelson reading her short story about the 2014 murder of her ex-husband, Dan Markel. She spoke about how she’s able to express herself and her true feelings in her writing but not in real life. In 2016, the first arrest was made in Dan’s murder case. In 2023, after 3 successful prosecutions of individuals involved in Dan’s murder, Wendi’s brother, Charlie, was also convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in conspiring to murder Dan. A week after Charlie was convicted, their mother, Donna Adelson, was arrested at the airport as she was attempting to flee on a one-way flight to a non-extradition country. Donna has been charged for her role in her late ex-son-in-law’s murder and will likely face trial in Leon County, FL in 2024.
