Giant continental rabbits can weigh up to 15kg and are becoming increasingly popular as house pets. STORYLINE: What a hare-raising sight! Easter might be just around the corner, but this is no Easter bunny.  This is Jaxson, a giant continental rabbit breed, who's a pet and companion for physiotherapist Mary Mackay. Giant continentals are some of the largest rabbits in the world and can weigh up to 15kg.  Mackay loves a cuddle with Jaxson, but she can't hold him in her arms for too long. "I mean, he's almost 11 kilos and most people's dogs don't come up to that. You know a small spaniel will be 11 and a half, 12 kilos. So he's solid. I mean when you pet him, you pet him like a dog, he's certainly not one of these sort of little bunnies that are going to break." she says.  Giant continental rabbits were originally bred in Europe for their meat, but they're becoming increasingly popular pets. Despite their large size, they're gentle giants and love nothing more than chilling out on the sofa with their owner and receiving lots of strokes and cuddles. "He's a gentle giant. He's a very gentle giant," says Mackay.
