Bago City Visit on Rizal Day

On December 30, 2025, Rizal Day, my wife and I visited the St. John the Baptist Church and the Tan Juan House, the two most historical building in Bago City. The Church was established in 1575 and was made at first of light materials before a stone church was built on the spot a century ago. The latter version has a Neo-colonial appearance as a result of modifications done in the early 20th century. The House was built by Capitan Juan Anacleto Araneta, the leader of the revolutionaries in the South of Bacolod, who masterminded the surrender of Bacolod by the Spanish authorities on November 5, 2025 without firing a shot. He used dummy canons made of "amakan" (bamboo mat) that fooled the Colonial authorities in Negros.
