The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: A mix of weather systems, including a surface trough across the western interior, disturbances higher up in the atmosphere, and a ridge of high pressure in the east, will bring scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms to many regions. The South African Weather Service has issued several impact-based warnings: a Level 4 Yellow warning for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rainfall is in place for the eastern parts of Mpumalanga and northern KwaZulu-Natal, with risks of flooding, damaging winds, lightning, and hail. Level 2 Yellow warnings for heavy downpours, localised flooding, and wind damage apply to central and western KwaZulu-Natal Province, the southern and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga, the eastern Northern Cape, Free State, and much of the North West. Additionally, a Level 1 Yellow warning for damaging winds is in effect between Oyster Bay and East London, where small harbours, ports, and boats may be disrupted or at risk.
