A video showing how to present the Knobless Cylinders. Knobless Cylinders – Set 1 • The yellow box, varies in height and diameter • Place the mat on the floor and bring the box of cylinders to the mat. • Take off the lid and place it under the box, remove the cylinders putting them in random order on the floor. Take the largest cylinder and place it in front of you. • Wait a moment so the child can see that you are deliberately looking for the next size cylinder; place this one on top of the first one. • Continue choosing the cylinders in order and build a tower. Your child can join in at any time. If the mat is uneven build the tower on the lid of the box. • When you have finished take down the cylinders one at a time and place them quietly in the box. • Grading the Cylinders; o Sit next to your child with the cylinders in mixed order, arrange in order of size beginning with the largest, move slowly placing the cylinders so they touch each other side by side going largest to smallest. • The vocabulary is large- small, large- larger- largest, small-smaller-smallest. • The purpose of this activity is to grade by size and train the eye to perceive fine differences in dimensions, they learn to recognize differences and similarities and co-ordination of movement. Knobless Cylinder – Set 2 • The Green box, varies in height and diameter • Place the mat on the floor and bring the box of cylinders to the mat. • Take off the lid and place it under the box, remove the cylinders putting them in random order on the floor. • Take the largest cylinder and place it in front of you. • Wait a moment so the child can see that you are deliberately looking for the next size cylinder; place this one on top of the first one. • Continue choosing the cylinders in order and build a tower. Take the Tallest cylinder and place it in front of you. • Wait a moment so the child can see that you are deliberately looking for the next size cylinder; place this one on top of the first one. • Continue choosing the cylinders in order and build a tower.
