On the night of 14–15 August 1947, India formally gained independence from British rule. This archival footage captures the historic moments in Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru delivering his “Tryst with Destiny” address to the Constituent Assembly, Lord Mountbatten being sworn in as the first Governor-General, and the Cabinet taking office.
