"Sir Duke" ends Side One of the iconic 1976 Stevie Wonder album 'Songs in the Key of Life.' It was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for many weeks, and it remains one of the most joyous and funky songs ever. A tribute to great musicians and music itself, this has long been one of my all time favorite songs, to the point where I played it with a rhythm section on my senior recital in college. For this arrangement, I knew I wanted to bring in Andrew Brady after hearing his exquisite phrasing on Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas", as well as another Stevie Wonder cover from this same album (check out • Andrew Brady Stevie Wonder ). The bassoon band shout chorus is the very happy result of an open ended call I put on facebook, until I ran out of space on screen! A few brave bassoonists also submitted improvised solo choruses with terrific results. I can't play harmonica, so melodica is as close a personal tribute as I can offer Stevie. And finally, I'm so grateful to my amazing colleague Wesley Sumpter for contributing such a funky drum track! I'm taking a small step forward with this video in terms of my production skills. I certainly learned a lot doing it, but I made many mistakes, some of which are probably still visible. So, whether due to COVID era logistical difficulties or my limited technical skills - I apologize for any sync issues. My computer (and I) could BARELY handle this many audio/video tracks, but I think that considering the many recordings that had to come together to make this video, the result came together nicely! I hope you enjoy. Credits: "Sir Duke" from 'Songs in the Key of Life' by Stevie Wonder arr.
