During the Second World War there were many different war crimes committed by the armies involved in the conflict. However many of the most savage and brutal crimes involved the Japanese Army, and its estimated that between 4 and 14 million civilians were killed in actions linked to the Japanese. They treated Prisoners of War terribly, but as they advanced throughout many lands in Asia they committed massacres and atrocities. One such horrific killing took place in Singapore and at the Alexandra Hospital. This was a hospital which had been set up by the British before World War 2, and there were hundreds of nurses and doctors who worked here. But during the Second World War, the hospital became very overcrowded and conditions were rather poor. But on the 14th February 1942, the Japanese Army attacked the Alexandra Hospital and they broke into the building and committed terrible murders. It is estimated that around 300 workers and patients at the hospital were killed, many when they Japanese soldiers bayonetted them to death. Some were even killed whilst lying on the operating theatre. At the Hospital, the soldiers had no regard for the people who were working there, and they killed dozens. They also took many prisoners of war and forced them into tiny cells nearby, and many more doctors, nurses and other soldiers died inside of the little prisons. But after the war, very little reprisal occurred for the Alexandra Hospital Massacre and no-one was executed who took part in the killings.
