Tubular Cast-On (in the round) with waste yarn | The non-fussy easy technique

An easy, simple and no-fuss method to work the classic 1x1 ribbed tubular cast-on, that uses a simple rectangle (knitted out of waste yarn), at the start of the project. You just need to know how to knit and purl for this technique - there are no specific finicky cast-on movements involved and the stitches don't twist around the cable to make joining in the round problematic, since there is a good chunk of the worked cast-on already on the needles. Because the stitches are worked from both sides of the working yarn section, one only needs to cast on half the amount of the needed stitches of any given pattern (+ 1 stitch, to allow for a straight ribbing). The tubular cast-on gives a finished look that resembles ready-to-wear machine knitting to any neckline, cuff or hem. It also has quite a lot of stretch and can be used in combination with the tubular bind-off in garments. Use it in any project for a neat and elegant edge: In clothing but also in many accessories worked in the round, like hats or mittens.
