The Hyenas Of The Mists

The brown hyena is not your typical hyena. With its long shaggy coat it is one of the rarest carnivores on the planet and is found only in southern Africa. In recent years, half the population of this unusual species has found refuge on the Skeleton Coast, in Namibia, one of the most arid and inhospitable places in the world. In order to survive in this hostile milieu these carrion–eaters have had to change their way of life, become hunters and adapt their diet. How have they managed to adapt to this coastal desert? Has this area, also known as the “gates of hell”, become a new eden for these dishevelled and little known creatures?
