Rush as looting erupted all around them. The video, taken from surveillance cameras in the offices of Rep. Bobby Rush, show Chicago Police Department officers eating popcorn, taking naps, and ignoring the looting around them. The CPD officers apparently broke into the offices of Rep. Rush and, instead of addressing the looting and violence occurring around them on Chicago's South Side, the police ignored it and let chaos reign instead. The George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter protests that have sprung up in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd have sparked a global discussion on police brutality, police racism, and police violence, and amid cries to defund the police and abolish the police, we have to wonder why these officers were not keeping the peace they were sworn to protect.
