Played on March 12th, but not uploaded until now, because I was dissatisfied with this run and kept trying to beat it. 5 days of attempts later, without any more luck and a jittery thumb, I have decided to call it quits, so here is what I got. I want to thank Dylan (whom you can see at the end of this recording with a 2:18.24 on the leaderboards) for showing me their route and ideas for this level. This level is a colossal pain in the ass, and while I am not particularly happy with this run, I'm looking forward to not have to play it anymore for now. Maybe I'll come back at another time, but for now I'm glad to have a run with (what I presume is) the fastest route that I can put up online for reference, if nothing else. If other players know different or faster strategies, please make yourselves known. What makes this level so hard to deal with is that every single jump you see, including the really unsuspecting one at the very beginning, has a decent chance of crashing you upon landing. So even just getting a run through without any crashes, assuming you make no mistakes, is quite unlikely. Further inconsistencies come from extreme speed variations in landings. The most difficult and aggravating part is the section starting at 0:59, with a largely blind, massive jump off the cliff. Due to the extreme amounts of airtime (nearly 5 seconds!), landing savely is very unlikely, clipping you through the floor or crashing in most cases, and even if you manage to avoid that, landing close enough to the road itself is hard enough due to coming immediately out of a turn when lining up with very poor visual cues. If your goal is to just finish the level, like in a full game speedrun for example, it would be enough to land next to the road, however, the room for error is pretty small as you only have about one or two seconds here in most cases to get back to the road before getting greyed out. Landing on the offroad and making it back to the road, you can continue the road further for a slightly slower, but safer route. Should you, however, get lucky enough to land directly on the road without crashing out, you carry enough speed to immediately throw yourself into another skip. When you launch yourself over the hump off to the right side of the road, the distance you need to cover is very far and not getting greyed out here really requires very efficient use of your speed and travel distance. That alone isn't enough though, as the physics behave very unpredictably here. Whether you stick to the ground or bounce, and how many bounces, and how much speed you preserve, appears to be a complete gamble, making it extremely difficult to react well to the skip's outcome and make it back to the road. It used to be very difficult for me to make it over the entire offroad distance of the skip without getting greyed out, but as I got better at that, making it back onto the road without completely losing control and overshooting has gotten seemingly exponentially more difficult. If you do make it though, you get to this stretch of straight road over the hill, which is most definitely my biggest timeloss this run, as I did not have a very smooth re-entry onto the road and lost a lot of speed. The final shortcut is another really awkward to line up, steep drop. Since your speed is relatively low here it's not the worst thing to execute, but the steepness of the drop makes it once again very likely to crash out, and the fact that you're landing in a hairpin makes it difficult to remain control upon landing. With one final turn, that I unfortunately ate a bit of dirt on, you finally make it to the finish. I will say, this level is normally obscenely long, and doing it in under 2 minutes is very satisfying, even if the end result leaves a bit to be desired. I enjoyed the time I spent trying to figure this one out, before it became a endless grind misery spiral.
