We usually have multi grain rice to celebrate the first full moon of the year, called 정월대보름. The tradition is to make rice with 5 different types of grains (오곡밥) and make namul with various dried winter vegetables. We also eat various nuts such as peanuts and walnuts. This tradition is still practiced today although in a somewhat condensed manner. We also make red bean rice for special occasions, such as birthdays. When I was young, I did not like the taste of red bean as much and always asked my mother for plain white rice instead. However, my taste bud has changed and now I try to make it whenever possible. It is cumbersome to prepare multi grain rice every day. So, I usually prepare a large quantity of red beans and black beans at once. Then, I freeze them in small portions to include in my daily rice cooking. This goes the same for other types of beans as well. I try to buy them fresh in season and freeze them to use throughout the year. Multi grain rice is not only healthy but quite tasty. It has helped me to lower my cholesterol and weight as well. I hope that you will try making it this weekend. Happy cooking and happier eating! 👩🍳 Support Diana's Table Please like, subscribe, and comment your thoughts on this video.
