The original "Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye". Sammy Kaye (March 13, 1910--June 2, 1987), born Samuel Zarnocay, Jr. DADDY, originally written by Bobby Troup, who also wrote "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" and Snootie Little Cutie and produced Julie London's "Cry Me A River" in 1955. Daddy was Troup's first large hit in 1941, first recorded by Sammy Kaye & His Orchestra, the song was a immediate hit, ranking #1 for 8 weeks. Subsequently recorded by the Andrews Sisters. Troup married Julie London, ca. 1960, and they appeared together in the hit TV series, Emergency in the 70s. London had previously been married to Jack Webb. Note this additional information from the page "SONGS FROM THE YEAR 1941",Billboard suggests that the song "Daddy" by Sammy Kaye was the top song from July 12th to August 29th that year (1941).
