Giessen is a town in central Germany, around 60 kilometers north of Frankfurt. It's famous for the Mathematikum, a math museum featuring hands-on activities. The Liebig Museum, located next door, has chemical displays as well as the laboratory of 19th-century scientist Justus von Liebig. The Botanical Garden, which is part of the University of Giessen, was created in 1609 and has hundreds of plant varieties. Burg Gleiberg castle towers over the town to the northwest. Marburg is a town in Germany located north of Frankfurt. Philipps University, which was founded in 1527, is located there. The Alstadt, or old town, features half-timbered homes and the hilltop Landgrafenschloss, a castle with holy art and regional history exhibitions. Marketplatz area and the tiny alleyways surrounding it are lined with bars and cafés. St. Elizabeth's Church, built in the Gothic style in the 13th century, houses a shrine containing the saint's relics.
