Once you integrate this understanding with the game’s influences in Christian Abrahamaic myth, Hebrew lore, and Gnosticism you know the story. Light Magic and Dark Magic and Alchemy are the keys that enable you to decipher and dissect the lore of the games. The underlying foundation of the lore that connects the Shared Universe is that the setting is of a post-apocalyptic world involving Man’s Fall From Grace due to their twisting of the metaphysical realms of Light and Darkness in Alchemy that used human sacrifice in a bid for immortality and the subsequent weaponization of the esoteric forces of the world resulting in Man’s first direct access to Dark Magic which precipitated the enslavement of the dead via necromancy, the twisting of alchemy to create bio-horror weapons, and subsequent Doomsday Wars that resulted from these discoveries. From the Original Sin of Sacrificial Alchemy came the 2nd Apocalyptic Wars A Doomsday War involving atomic weapon equivalent lethal applications of Light and Dark Magic. A war between those who still served the Gods and followed the Light, the Light Magic Users, and those who through the perversion of sacred alchemy accessed the sacrosanct creational Darkness reserved only as the province of the Divine, the Necromancers, the Dark Magic Users. The Magic System of the Shared Universe is key to understanding and deciphering the lore and backgrounds of all the games. It is my supposition that the lore and back story can be determined through the understanding of the metaphysical realms of the game in terms of the metaphysical dual aspects of Creation: Light and Darkness and their union in Alchemy. Thanks to MaxDerrat and other sources, it is known that in the Shared Universe everything and all things is composed equally of both light and darkness and these aspects can manifest themselves in the applications of Light Magic and Dark Magic. I suspect that the Ico Universe games differ from others in that they are a series of prequels detailing how the world came to be from the “antediluvian age” apocalypse. Once you understand the magic, you will know the lore of all the games. The magic is key to understanding in underlying themes present within the story and the underlying truth of the Ico world. All stories have within them 3 elements which is emblematic of their magic system: Light Magic, Dark Magic, and Alchemy. Within alchemy itself is a twisted subset which involves human sacrifice to extract the Light Side producing as a result or intended product the Blue Goo and to enslave the dead via their Dark Half. From here we can discern the relationships of the gods and man, of the races and makings of the world, and the Fall from Grace that precipitated the modern world of Ico. Light Magic represents Life and Dark Magic represents Death. Light Magic’s manifestation is white and cyan (Ico) and Dark Magic’s manifestation is black and teal. Order and Chaos, the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine, Positive and Negative are also relevant. All things in the world are made of Light and Dark and have as their equivalents Light Magic and Dark Magic respectively. Alchemy is the integration of these elements of Light and Dark Magic to create form and perform various applications. By knowing the interplay of the Realms of Life and Death, we can understand with better clarity how each game’s story functions. I believe that the pre-apocalypse civilizations drew heavily upon the use of Light Magic as its foundation and alchemy. Light Magic as I will explain in further videos is related to Life and produces effects and energies which via the circular and spherical structures of Ico and other means can be utilized. The reason why Light Magic was the basis of the Ancient Alchemical Civilization is that Light Magic represents and is the power of Life and objects upon which Light Magic is used come to Life and can be used for various purposes. The Old World Civilization was based heavily upon the use of Light Magic and Alchemy. I believe that this civilization used a special form of Light Magic possibly the Original Light Magic gifted to them by the Powers That Be, the Gods…a power that they may have lost the right to when they became vainglorious and proud and when they tried to cheat death.
