This vintage tinplate Gee-Wiz horse racing game dates back to the 1920s. It’s a simple but ingenious design - six horses are shunted along the track by ball bearings which are flicked by the shaft of a flywheel. The aim of the game is, obviously, to bet on the winning horse, each identified by different colours. When the horses reach the end of the track, they trigger a coloured flag to raise so it is clear to see who has won. One of the cleverest parts of this game is the fact that the result is completely random, based entirely on the physics of the ball bearings being fired up the six tracks. This game wasn’t working due to the tracks and the bottom of the horses being dirty and slightly rusty. I undertook a full restoration of the game and I have also included a bonus restoration within the video, just for fun! Although condensed into a 20 minute video for you, this restoration actually took about 10 days to complete. Restoring and repairing old items such as this is incredibly time-consuming and can also be very frustrating, as you will see! #restoration #asmr #toyrepair
