Hurricane Melissa has been a Category 5 storm for a full day, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down as it inches closer to landfall. In fact, it continues to get stronger. Melissa's winds have increased from 175 to 185 mph in the last two hours. The pressure is now down to 892 mb, which is tied for the 3rd lowest pressure on record for Atlantic hurricanes. The eyewall is now beginning to come onshore. The National Hurricane Center issued a dire message in their most recent position update on the Category 5 hurricane: "THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION! TAKE COVER NOW! Failure to adequately shelter may result in serious injury, and loss of life. Residents in Jamaica that experience the eye should not leave their shelter as winds will rapidly increase within the backside of the eyewall of Melissa.
