Welcome to Jenevora’s Running Commentary. This is a series of short chats and ideas about singing and teaching singing, named after the when I do a lot of my thinking: on a run. Episode 1: Do less, and wiggle it! Many singers default to working harder and adding more effort than they actually need. In this video I’m exploring efficiency, doing less so you’re not spending extra tension or energy that causes problems elsewhere. Two simple ways to check whether you’re gripping: Head wiggles while singing (yes/yes, no/no) to help the neck stay free and the larynx work more efficiently Hip circles while singing (“hula hooping”) to keep the breathing muscles balanced and responsive Try them gently and notice what changes.
