The voting for the crucial West Bengal Panchayat elections has started amid tight security arrangements amid concerns of widespread violence. Several incidents of violence and arson were reported after the process of nomination began in the state. As many as seven people were killed in election-related violence in West Bengal as voting was underway. While four workers from TMC were killed, one BJP polling agent was shot dead in Cooch Behar. A CPIM worker, who was injured in clashes, died at a hospital in Kolkata today. The polling percentage in West Bengal was 22.6% at 11am, whereas it was 10.2% at 9am. The West Bengal panchayat election is likely to witness a fierce battle for control of local administrations between the ruling Trinamool Congress, Indian Secular Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose is scheduled to visit North 24 Parganas and Nadia to oversee Panchayat polls.
