The best way to train a German Shepherd is with consistent, positive reinforcement. Treats, toys, and a loving voice are all good tools to encourage your dog to behave in the way that you wish. When your puppy is learning to sit, start by holding a treat in front of their nose and slowly move it over their head. Once they begin to look at the treat, give them a reward. Repeat the process until they can sit for longer periods of time without your help. Exercise is essential for the health of your German Shepherd, as it keeps their muscles strong and helps to reduce pain related to joint issues. Including glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM in their diet can also help to maintain joint health and reduce the onset of osteoarthritis, a common problem among this breed.
