CONGRESO, XVII International Conference on the Inclusive Museum Intersectionality: Museums, Inclusion, and SDGs en Viena Austria. TITLE: Cultural Accessibility: Technological Innovation in Museums for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.PresentersPhD. Chele Esteve Sendra. PhD. Ana Tomás Miralles. Prof. Ricardo Moreno Cuesta Abstract The democratization of museums and the accessibility for people with disabilities have gained prominence in recent decades. Historically, museums have faced criticism for their lack of inclusion policies, but with UNESCO guidelines, accessibility has become a priority. Spanish museums, such as the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Tiflológico de la ONCE, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid and the Museu de Belles Arts de València, have implemented programs to improve accessibility, offering guided tours, tactile resources, and audio guides. The use of technologies, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), has facilitated inclusive experiences, allowing people with disabilities to access additional information about exhibitions through mobile devices. A qualitative study on the impact of these technologies, which included focus groups and interviews with people with disabilities, revealed improvements in the visitor experience and highlighted the need for staff training. Inclusion in museums is not only a moral imperative but also offers social, economic, and cultural benefits by attracting wider audiences and promoting diversity.
