Portland Police union rep says officers caught in the middle of heated political debate

Boarded-up windows, graffiti, signs, and chanting during the daytime outside the Portland ICE facility, signs of what President Donald Trump has referred to as "a war zone." At night, sometimes things are calm, other times less so. Videos shared with KATU show violent confrontations between protesters and counter-protesters; other videos show federal agents taking action against the protesters. None of the videos provides enough audio or length to give a full understanding of the context leading up to the incidents. While the level of tension waxes and wanes from one night to the next, what remains consistent is the ongoing presence of protesters who began a sustained action at the beginning of June and have not left since then.
