Aphasia is defined as a deficit in language processing. A careful and detailed history and examination are crucial in differentiating between the various types of aphasia as well as creating a detailed differential diagnosis to uncover the underlying etiology. In this video, we aim to review the exam features of the various aphasia types, review the neuroanatomical localization for specific aphasia syndromes, and review some potential causes for an aphasia syndrome. With these skills, you would be able develop a diagnostic and treatment plan as well as counsel patients regarding diagnosis and prognosis.
