🏁 My Formula 1 Driving Experience Prost AP04 V8 Cosworth engine – 650 hp / 550 kg Driving a Formula 1 car had always been my biggest dream — something I honestly never thought I would achieve. I lost 12 kg to meet the specifications and be able to fit into the car. ⸻ THE EXPERIENCE As a whole, it is spectacular. The day starts early with an almost one-hour briefing, followed by two sessions in a Formula Renault 2.0 Turbo (200 hp / 500 kg). The Renault alone is already impressive. I don’t have extensive experience in motorsport, although I’ve done several track days at different circuits. Still, I felt very comfortable in the car. There were two 15-minute sessions, with nine cars on track at a time. By chance, someone from the team mentioned that I had set the second fastest time of the day. Lunch break. In the afternoon, the Formula 1 sessions finally began. That day was marked by several incidents: spins, crashes involving Formula Renault cars and even Formula 1 cars. Many red flags, interrupted sessions, and significant delays. I had traveled from Brazil to France to fulfill my dream — and, for some reason, I ended up being the last person to drive. I spent the entire afternoon waiting. Anxiety kept building, time kept passing, and a huge nervousness set in at the thought that I might not get to drive at all due to all the red flags. It was 5:30 pm. With the help of the agency through which I purchased the experience, things finally started to move. Then I heard: “You’re next.” I had originally booked the Benetton. And guess what? The driver before me slid and hit the wheel against the wall. As a result, they replaced it with the Prost — same engine. And then, finally, it was my turn. I honestly can’t remember ever feeling emotions so intensely amplified. It was a mix of everything. I had traveled 12 hours by plane, plus 3 hours by car, nearly missed the opportunity because of delays — and then I was finally sitting inside a Formula 1 car. A 33-year film played through my mind. I drove the first few meters in an F1 and immediately felt its ferocity, how much it breaks traction, and how slippery the track was. It was already late in the day, and it was quite cold. Did I make mistakes? Maybe. At the end of the straight, when I braked, the car did not downshift. A massive scare. They told me my foot on the accelerator was still slightly engaged while I was braking, so the car wouldn’t downshift to protect the gearbox. Honestly, I can’t say for sure if that was true. The cockpit is extremely tight, but I don’t believe I would have made such a big mistake. After braking at that speed, going straight on, and flirting with life in just a few seconds, my heart was in my throat. When I was put back on track, I tried to be less aggressive and drive “slowly.” But the car doesn’t allow it — it demands revs, it provokes you, it pushes you. A few corners later, I spun. And in that moment, I knew: my dream had been fulfilled. It was a bucket of cold water and, at the same time, absolute fulfillment. A mix of frustration for not finishing the way I had imagined, and deep gratitude for having done what I had always dreamed of. I needed a few minutes to process everything. But I knew I would get emotional and tell great stories. And here I am, sharing it with you — my friends who are passionate about motorsport. ⸻ ACKNOWLEDGMENTS To my family and friends. To AMK Velocidade do Brasil, who made the experience in France possible. And to Pompidou father and son, two drivers who are part of the team and were incredibly kind and attentive. I will never forget their words and care. ⸻ THE FORMULA 1 CAR I have never had an experience like this in any other car. From very far away, the closest comparison would be a kart — not because of power, but because of the dynamics. You need to be extremely progressive on the throttle. Keeping your head steady at high speed is a real challenge for those who are not used to it. The agility in the transition of movement is inexplicable. It doesn’t seem compatible with the size of the car. The seatbelts are unbelievably tight — until you brake. Then you understand why. It feels like being launched from a catapult. Inside the car, you feel like you’re inside a blender. The sound of the engine, literally in your ears, sends shivers through your ancestors. ⸻ CONCLUSION If you truly dream of doing something like this, make every possible effort to have this experience. LRS Formula has found a formula that works extremely well for this kind of experience. Perhaps the day I went was a bit more chaotic due to all the red flags, but it was still unforgettable. If you are from Brazil, look for AMK Velocidade. Don’t try any other way. That day became a tattoo in my memory. 🍀
