The Nerdy Breakdowns are meant to dive deep into the important fundamental details. We will miss some things but aim to give you a strong understanding of what you need to move and feel when learning any trick. Pushing the skateboard is possibly one of the most important and difficult skills to learn when starting out. Take your time and build the skills you need slowly and methodically. Be creative with your practice and use this breakdown to help you build awareness so you can figure out new ways to learn. Remember this is video 1 in a 2 part series. The next video will have several practice drills broke down to help you learn the fundamentals. Pushing Breakdown Checklist • Learn to balance on the front foot • Coordinate the arm and leg swing • Push foot touches down next to balance foot • Push when push foot is next to back wheels • Lower half of the lead leg always stays tipped forward • Foot swing path stays close to board • Get low through the lead leg before pushing • Tip your spine forward when pushing • Keep your core forward over the board by flexing lead ankle • Don’t rush the step just glide while balancing on your front foot between pushes • Position your foot on the centerline of the board • Position your foot behind the front bolts/wheels • For steering leverage angle your toes across board slightly in the direction you want to turn • Use counter-balance movements of the upper body against the legs to stay balanced over the front foot… USSEA is a non profit organization dedicated to helping people learn to skate and learn how to teach skateboarding.
