Cutaway of media 13. SOUNDBITE: (English) Barack Obama, US Senator: "Here in Kenya we have seen a decline in the incidents of new (HIV) infection and that is tremendous and the Ministry of Health is to be commended. And my understanding is that part of the reason that we have made progress is not only good information that has been disseminated, but also you have health care workers, doctors and nurses who are still operating here in Kenya and making a big difference all over the country. We still have more progress to make in testing, so I'm going to be encouraging people to test when I go up to Nyangoma tomorrow. We also need to try and make more anti-viral drugs available and that costs money." 14. Obama leaving and waving to reporters STORYLINE: US Senator Barack Obama, visiting his father's homeland, praised Kenya's democratic achievements during a meeting with President Mwai Kibaki on Friday. Obama said Kenya's success as a democracy should "attract foreign investors for the country and the region at large. Later in a news conference, however, Obama warned that, unless addressed, crime and rampant corruption will put off foreign investors. "Kenya does not yet have the kind of transparent accountable government that encourages development. The fact is that at every level the people of Kenya still have to suffer through corruption," he added. The senator, an Illinois Democrat, told reporters he was overwhelmed by the reaction to his visit but cautioned against expecting it to produce sweeping changes. Obama's visit, his first since becoming a US senator last year, has dominated the front pages of newspapers and television stations. Hundreds of US Embassy employees and their families cheered Obama, singing a song in Kenya's national language, Kiswahili, with the lyrics: "When you see Obama has come to Kenya, this day is blessed." An embassy employee said Kenyans will listen to Obama's suggestions for reform in the country where his father was born and grew up herding goats. One Kenyan said he believed the Senator's visit would help impoverished Kenya get donations from American people. Later on Friday, Obama met survivors of the 1998 bombing of the US Embassy in Kenya and laid a wreath in memory of the 248 people killed. Hundreds surrounded the park in central Nairobi, cheering and waving and one bystander was allowed through a security cordon to present Obama with a wood carving. On Saturday, he plans to visit the western village of Nyangoma-Kogelo, where his father grew up and where his grandmother still lives. He will take a public HIV test at a remote clinic in an effort to promote the need for safe sex in a country where about 700 people die each day from HIV/AIDS.
