YO! I perform under the name _kaibuster and here’s a quick tutorial on how to set up your M8’s global transpose w/ a midi keyboard. The only midi keyboard I have is the akai mpk mini which only has usb midi, but that wont be an issue. Here I’m running the akai’s usb into my rk006’s usb hub with a 3.5mm cable to m8s midi in. M8’s usb is for display to my desktop and we’re running audio out through a mixer into my interface. If you follow these steps you should be able to get this going. If you have any questions head over to the Dirtywave M8 discord and we’ll get you sorted. Before starting be sure that your midi keyboard’s channel is set to 15. 1. Place your cursor over the Transpose value, while holding down Option key drag your finger across M8’s screen to assign it to the midimap 2. In M8’s Midi Settings change the Control Map Channel to 16. 3. Under the Track Midi Input section change Track 8’s channel to 15 and the instrument under it to 7F. 4. In the Midi Mappings screen change the touchscreen mapping to channel 16. To match the two octaves for my akai I’ve set the Range to F4 and 0C, however if you are using a bigger or smaller keyboard you will need to adjust these values. 5. On the Song project page, create a new phrase in track 8. In that chain create a new phrase and in that phrase create a new instrument. 6. Set this new instrument to Midi Out and turn the Transpose option to Off otherwise your keyboard will not work. Next change the Port to Internal, Channel to 16, and insert the Value 001 into CCA. 7. Switch to the Mods page for this Internal Midi Out instrument and change Mod4 to 05 Tracking and set the Destination to 01 for CCA. Next set your Lval to 30 (for your lowest note on your keyboard) and 48 (for your highest note). Again, these values are subject to change based on the size of your midi keyboard. After completion of step 7 your keyboard should be acting as a global transpose controller for your M8 project. At the end of my video I show my lowest note playing C5 and my highest note C7 to show the full range of the akai’s two octaves. Final notes: Once setup you can delete this phrase so it doesn’t trigger any transpose changes other than your keypresses. (I’d urge caution in setting up future phrases or instruments under track 8 for they might interfere with keypresses/midi messages. I’ll leave that up for you to explore.) Any instrument that you don’t wan’t to follow the Global Transpose switch their individual instrument’s Transpose setting to OFF. For example, if you wanted your synths and melodies to change key but not your fx or drum instruments. Thank you to Trash80 for helping me set this up and for creating the Dirtywave M8 Tracker. And thank you to the discord community for all the tips and guidance over the many months. Good luck out there and happy tracking.
