Can Cau market is one of the most fascinating open-air markets in Sapa, specialising in livestock. Can Cau is a busy market which is held every Saturday. This small market, 20km North of Bac Ha and just 9km south of the Chinese border, attracts a growing number of visitors. The campus of Can Cau market is more than 1 hecta. It's located on the hillside. The whole market looks like 5 terraced fields stand on a unique road. Each plot is a display of many diverse colors. Among them, 3 plots are for sale of local handicrafts and specialties. Such as brocades, herbs, vegetables, handicrafts, etc., the remaining two plots sell ethnic minority dishes and household appliances like flashlights, brushes, pots, pans, cups, bowls ... Almost every Saturday, many different minorities are represented at the market. A few Bac Ha stallholders also make the journey to Can Cau on Saturdays. It’s a magnet for the local tribal people, including Flower Hmong (Red Hmong), Blue Hmong, Nung, Phu La and even Chinese people from across the border. Travel is often made by horseback as a way of carrying the heavy loads to and from the market. Can Cau also attracts a large number of Chinese traders, evidenced by the booming dog trade here. Can Cau market is known as the largest buffalo market in the North-west of Vietnam. Each Saturday it attracts hundreds of buffalo owners. Around 7am, the buffalo area is already very busy and crowded with buffaloes, their owners and stocky buffalo dealers. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant. In the perfect light of the early morning, It is not only the colorful market and people but also the beautiful surrounding nature make the visit here an unforgettable trip, especially for nature lovers and photo hunters.The areas is close to China border and in a hidden place, less visitors come here.
