(31 Jul 2008) SHOTLIST 1. Office of Students for a Free Tibet 2. Medium shot of Students for Free Tibet members 3. Tight shot of Han Shan, Olympic Campaign Coordinator 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Lhadon Tethong, International Executive Director for Students for Free Tibet (on computer screen): "The idea of information being censored and the media not being allowed, on the paper is one thing and in practice is another. This is the way the Chinese government policy is in Tibet. Supposedly they say 'Tibet is a part of China', but in order to go to Tibet you need special permits or special regulations, special everything covering the region." 5. Wide, office 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Han Shan, Olympics Campaign Coordinator for Students for Free Tibet: "We're hoping to see powerful, creative, non-violent protests and actions inside Beijing during the Games. What we'll end up seeing, based on the security situation right now, I don't know. We hope it's peaceful, we hope it's truly non-violent on the part of the authorities. We certainly are dedicated to non-violence, but we're going to do everything we can to make sure that Tibet stays at the forefront of global consciousness during the games." 7. Medium shot of Shan and computers 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Han Shan, Olympics Campaign Coordinator for Students for Free Tibet: "As I mentioned (inaudible) television will be broadcasting and produced from London as well as other places around the world." 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Han Shan, Olympics Campaign Coordinator for Students for Free Tibet: "Right now I don't know what we'll see and I think we're as anxious as anybody else to see how protests unfold and how the Chinese authorities react and whether we're able to be successful in really keeping the attention on Tibet rather than on what we're doing and people speculating about whether we get in or don't get in or whether we'll be able to pull off this protest or not." 10. Sign outside office reading (English) "Students for a Free Tibet" STORYLINE A student group pledged on Thursday to keep up anti-Chinese protests over Tibet during the Beijing Olympics. Han Shan, Olympics Campaign Coordinator for Students for A Free Tibet in New York, said he was hoping to see 'powerful, creative, non-violent protests and actions'. But he insisted that protesters were dedicated to non-violence and he wanted media coverage to concentrate on the Tibet issue, rather than on the protest. "We're going to do everything we can to make sure that Tibet stays at the forefront of global consciousness during the games." Han said. "Right now I don't know what we'll see and I think we're as anxious as anybody else to see how protests unfold and how the Chinese authorities react and whether we're able to be successful in really keeping the attention on Tibet rather than on what we're doing and people speculating about whether we get in or don't get in or whether we'll be able to pull off this protest or not." Over the internet Lhadon Tethong, the International Executive Director for Students for a Free Tibet, voiced concerns with Chinese government policy. "Supposedly they say Tibet is a part of China," said Tethong. "But in order to go to Tibet you need special permits or special regulations, special everything covering in the region." With the Olympic games drawing near, Chinese leadership called in senior government and provincial officials last month to put them on notice that there should be no security glitches. More than 440,000 people have been mobilised for security for the games, from crack commando squads to neighbourhood watch patrols.
