Take a ride through one of the most unique transit systems in the world with this full-length, front window journey aboard the Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) in Morgantown, West Virginia. This front window view shows a pseudo-local trip, where we take PRT cars from station-to-station to show the approaches and lanes of each intermediate station. This was shot on multiple PRT cars; after all, there was no traditional scheduled stopping service running! 🛤️ About the Morgantown PRT: The Morgantown PRT is a pioneering example of automated transit technology that began service in 1975. Developed through a partnership between West Virginia University, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and Boeing, it was one of the first systems in the world to operate fully automatically with on-demand, point-to-point service as a classical "PRT" (Personal Rapid Transit) system. The system connects five stations across a 3.6-mile route, carrying thousands of students and residents each day. Unlike a traditional metro or light rail system, the PRT uses small, rubber-tired vehicles that run on a dedicated concrete guideway. Riders select their destination when entering the platform, and vehicles automatically route themselves to the correct station. Decades after its introduction, the Morgantown PRT remains one of the few functioning examples of this early vision of “personal rapid transit.” 🎥 A Note About This Video: This channel is an amateur project created with very limited resources. You may notice small reflections on the glass or minor camera movement, but we hope the system's uniqueness and the experience of riding it come through clearly. Your patience, understanding, and continued support mean a great deal and help make it possible to keep documenting these rare and historic transit systems.
