Get ready for a hands-on, creative 30-minute live coding lesson using J2Code (Visual) from the Just2easy tool-suite! Pupils will follow step-by-step instructions to build a simple, seasonal mini-game using sprites and event-based coding. This fun and accessible session introduces core programming concepts while embracing an autumn theme. Year Groups: England & Wales: Year 3 – Year 6 Northern Ireland/Scotland: Primary 4 – Primary 7 Lesson Breakdown: Introduction (5 mins): Quick chat about coding and games: What makes a game fun? What happens when we click or press something? Demonstration (10 mins): Teacher-led walkthrough in J2Code (Visual) showing how to: Add sprites (e.g. autumn leaves, characters, animals) Code simple interactions like clicking, movement, or changes Pupil Activity (15 mins): Pupils build their own autumn-themed mini-game using the blocks provided. More confident pupils can add bonus features such as multiple sprites or win/lose messages. Plenary (5 mins): Test and play a few of the games, then show how to save and share them with classmates or teachers Pupil Outcomes: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: Use block-based coding to create simple event-driven games Add and customise sprites in a digital environment Understand how events trigger actions in code Apply problem-solving and sequencing skills to make a working game Supports computing curriculum goals in programming and logical thinking. Ideal for schools wanting to introduce or revisit coding in a seasonal and engaging way. Pupils should be logged into the Just2easy tool-suite with 1:1 device access. No prior experience with J2Code is required – full support will be given throughout the session. The lesson will begin at 9:30am BST on Thursday 20th November 2025, and can be paused as needed to support pupil progress. Need help accessing the session? Contact support@j2e.com
